Jeff S. Shepard was born in San Francisco, California while his father
John was a student at the University of California Hastings College of
the Law. Jeff attended Selma schools from kindergarten through
graduation from Selma High School in 1964. He attended California State
University, Fresno. His college education was interrupted when he was
drafted into the United States Army. He received an honorable discharge
in 1967 and was appointed a Reserve Commissioned Officer, grade First
Lieutenant. After his honorable discharge, he enrolled at Humphrey's Law
School in Fresno. He graduated in 1978 and was admitted to the
California Bar, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth
Circuit, and the United States District Court, Eastern District of
California on November 29, 1978. He joined his father John Shepard and
his partner, Paulette Janian in the practice of law, as the fourth
generation attorney, for the firm founded by his great grandfather in
1883. Jeff was honored by Selma High School and named Alumnus of the
year in 1995 and honored by the City of Selma when he was named Citizen
of the Year in 1994. He is a past President of the Selma Rotary
International and after many years of service with the Rotary sponsored
annual Band Festival, he was named Parade Grand Marshall in 2008. He has
received an Honorary Doctorate from the Fresno County office of
Education in recognition for years of service to Fresno County Schools
and their students.

Paulette Janian was born and raised in Selma, California. She graduated
as the valedictorian of Selma High School in 1964. She received a
bachelor of arts degree in English, Magna Cum Laude and With College Honors in 1968, from California State University, Fresno. She attended
the University of San Francisco after graduation and then received her
juris doctor degree from The University of California, Hastings
College
of the Law in 1971. Paulette was admitted to the California Bar, the
United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the United
States District Court, Eastern District of California on January 5,
1972. She has been a member of the Fresno County Bar Association since
1972 and is a past Treasurer and past Chairman of the Family Law
Section of the organization. Since 1974, she has served as a Judge Pro
Tem of the Fresno Superior Court. In 1974, she was appointed Selma City
Attorney, a position she held for 9 years. Paulette was hired as a law
clerk for Shepard and Shepard in 1970. In 1974, she became a partner
and the firm has been known as Shepard, Shepard, & Janian since
that time.
